Family and Adolescent Group Therapy

True North Treatment center also offers a variety group counseling services. We believe that participation in group counseling can be an additional layer of support for children, adolescents, and families who often times thrive in a group environment.

Elementary Social Skills Group

This group is for elementary aged children and promotes learning and practicing social skills such as taking turns, sharing, learning appropriate boundaries, and working together with others. Participants get to use skills in the moment and while engaging in fun interactive activities and games.

Adolescent Social Skills Group

This group is for kids 12 years and older and promotes team work, critical thinking, and collaboration while actively engaging in activities that are age appropriate and intriguing.  The get to learn and practice social skills in the moment and receive feedback o their interpersonal skills. They also get to use the imagination and creativity!

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group

This group helps individuals learn how to better understand and and examine their behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that are linked to how they manage their day-to-day stress. They will learn to practice mindfulness, examine distress tolerance, and learn skills to help regulate their emotions. The interpersonal effectiveness skills they will learn will help in coping with challenges and stress more effectively.

Self Esteem Group

This group is designed to assist individuals with building their self esteem and self worth through processing, learning/ practicing skills, and assistance with thinking errors. Participants will practice strategies to put themselves first and creating a more happy life.

Adolescent Process Group

This group is designed for kids 13 years and older and creates a safe and supportive space to share struggles and hardship. It is a unique opportunity to receive multiple perspectives, support, encouragement, and feedback from other kids who may be experiencing similar emotions. The interpersonal relationships that are formed between participants allow kids to grow their sense of self-awareness and learn how to relate to others in healthy ways.

Lavender LGBTQI+ Process Group

This group is a supportive, affirming place to explore questions about identity issues with being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Group members can explore topics ranging from identity, dealing with acceptance, transitioning, experiences with bullying, exploring “coming out,” and much more.

Safe Zone

This group offers guidance and resources of powerful, effective LGBTQIA+ awareness and allyship for anyone who interacts with LGBTQIA+ youth. Participants will engage in plethora of activities that can be informative, insightful, eye-opening, and reflective. Donations appreciated.

Family Connections Group

This 12 week evidenced based group is focused on helping families gain a deeper understanding of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) methodology and skills. It is a therapeutic and educational opportunity for family members living with an individual struggling with emotional dysregulation issues (and who are currently involved in DBT treatment). It provides tools and strategies that can be beneficial to improving relationships, coping with the emotional dysregulation of others, and enhancing your own quality of life.

Parenting Education & Skills Group

Parenting group is for parents/ guardians of kids who are struggling with a variety of mental health issues. People are welcome to start weekly and we focus on topics that are covered in our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). We discuss skills that we teach the adolescents every week and how you can help your child integrate them. There is also a strong focus on validation and how to be a healthy and effective parent by being able to take care of yourself. Donations appreciated.

Substance Abuse, Education & Relapse Prevention Group

This group is focused on educating adolescents on substance abuse and addiction, providing skills for coping with the pressures of teenage alcohol and drug use, and helping with relapse and recovery skills. It is a structured ad supportive time to help adolescents gain a deeper understanding of all the ramifications surrounding substance use and addiction.
